Ed Carper, a name that embodies the essence of seizing the moment, is far more than just a wine enthusiast; he’s a true connoisseur with a passion for sharing the world of wines. Ed’s remarkable journey from the world of Information Technology (IT) to becoming a “Register Vinoloog” is a testament to his unwavering dedication and love for the art of winemaking.
Ed’s journey into the world of wine began during his frequent trips to France, where he nurtured his fascination with wine and its intricate craft. Starting with Bordeaux wines, he embarked on a quest to explore the depths of this world. His curiosity led him to enroll in a wine course, which revealed that exquisite wines weren’t exclusive to France; remarkable and unique wines were being crafted all around the globe.
Carper, the name, doesn’t signify the freshwater fish, but it derives from the Latin word “plucking,” reminiscent of “carpe diem” or “seize the day.” In Ed’s case, it translates to grape picking, hence “Carper Vinum.”
Having spent years in the ICT (IT) industry, Ed discovered his true calling lay in coaching and empowering teams to achieve their goals collectively. His passion for nurturing others’ strengths and fostering a sense of belonging within a team is a cornerstone of his approach to wine education.
Driven by the wine bug, Ed found a new purpose in life: introducing people to the world’s exquisite wines and their harmonious pairing with delectable dishes. His life was enriched, and he wanted to offer the same experience to others. Those who attend his courses and tastings discover the true joy of savoring wine, as attested by the glowing evaluations.
Ed’s commitment to personal growth led him to pursue an international wine study in Austria to become a “Weinakadimiker.” He continuously hones his skills through various masterclasses and participates in competitions such as “Vinoloog of the year.” His determination paid off, as he clinched the title of “Vinoloog of the Year 2020.” The honor came with the prestigious Lafite Laureate, which includes an all-expense-paid weekend at Chateaux Lafite in Bordeaux’s Pauillac wine region, complete with a tour and a sumptuous lunch.
